Solution:
2x + y = 7 ------> (1)
x + y = 5 -------> (2)
From (2), x = 5 - y ------> (3)
Substitute (3) in (1),
2(5 - y) + y = 7
10 - 2y + y = 7
10 - y = 7
y = 3 ------> (4)
Substitute (4) in (2),
x + 3 = 5
x = 2
Therefore, x = 2, y = 3

Solve 3x - 2y = 4 and 4x - y = 7 and verify it using the online variable calculator
Solution:
3x - 2y = 4 ------> (1)
4x - y = 7 -------> (2)
From (2), y = 4x - 7 ------> (3)
Substitute (3) in (1),
3x - 2(4x - 7) = 4
3x - 8x + 14 = 4
-5x = -10

Substitute (4) in (2),
4x - y = 7
4(2) - y = 7
8 - y = 7
y = 1
